With all economies around the world doing something from badly to unbelieveably poorly, cost cutting, rather than incresed income, is the method that most business owners and CEOs are looking to in an attempt to increase bottom lines everywhere.
Lean is a method that is not just about cost cutting or the implementation of a series of minor improvement activities. Lean is more about putting into practice a systematic approach, which must be started, supported and driven by top management and executives. Without such encouragement and implementation at a high level, any system, be that Lean or anything else, will be essentially, doomed to failure from the beginning.
In short, Lean is all about doing a lot more with a lot less. In a time of economic crisis, any business that is not prepared to look closely at its processes, expenditure and style of operation is very short-sighted and naive.
